Knowledge Session: A Social Business Case for Disability Inclusion in Development

with Annet Lukkien (Inclusion Matters)
Thursday 1st November 2018 | 15:30 - 16:30 | Office ICCO, Utrecht

There is a strong assumption that disability inclusion is costly. This assumption might be one of the main barriers that prevents governments from developing more inclusive policies and others from developing more inclusive services, programmes or workplaces. But what does the literature actually say about these costs? Aren’t the costs of exclusion and the benefits of inclusion much higher for society in the end?

Join the DCDD discussion on how to present a strong 'case' for disability inclusion. DCDD will digitally launch the final version of Annet Lukkien’s review on December 3rd, World Disability Day. Your feedback and inputs are welcome.

VOICE - innovative grant facility under SDG pledge 'leave no one behind'
Voice will also be joining the discussion and bring in their inclusion expertise, and a brief presentation by the Voice fund, on where and how they work on (disability) inclusion, and which new opportunities are coming up.

Voice is an initiative by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is executed by a consortium between Oxfam Novib and Hivos. This innovative grant facility of 35 million euro is aiming to support the most marginalised and discriminated people in ten countries in Africa and Asia. Voice is grounded in the Sustainable Development Goals where the UN pledges "that no one will be left behind" in the collective journey to end poverty and inequality.
