Event ‘Delivering on the potential of PPPs’

20 november 2018 | 9:30 - 16:30 | New World Campus, Den Haag

Event over Publiek Private Partnershappen binnen FDOV en FDW, en de lessen die daaruit getrokken kunnen worden.

Over het programma
Global issues, such as captured in SDG2 Zero Hunger and SDG6 Clean water and sanitation for all, need to be resolved at an appropriate scale and complexity. These are way beyond the interests and possibilities of any single actor. Multi-stakeholder partnerships are essential to a. align the purpose of all necessary parties to address the common issues and b. combine necessary capacities and resources. Public-private partnerships in particular have an essential role to play in ensuring that necessary horizontal (reaching numbers) and vertical (systemic change) scale of solutions can be jointly addressed.

The process of change and the role of PPPs
Over the last four years, PPPLab and their partners and organisations engaged in PPPs, have explored the transformational potential of PPPs. The emergence of the SDG-P facility is a good moment to concretely spell out how this potential should be delivered upon and what the implications for collective roles are. That means PPPs must:

Aspire to deliver systemic change

  • Be issue, not donor, driven on themes that really matter
  • Allow for adaptive approaches
  • Be ready to engage for longer periods

Be fit to realise their aspirations

  • Truly locally embed partnerships
  • Gain commitment to genuinely shared objectives
  • Be able to deal with complex systems and changing realities

Rethink risk and blend finances

  • Pioneer effective blended value approaches
  • Draw in country finance (actors) early on
  • Work with financial graduation and long-term financial plans from the start
