DCDD: TOWARDS INCLUSIVE FOOD SECURITY
Lessons and recommendations from the We are Able! programme
Wednesday 3 December 2025 | 13:45-18:00 | VNG International, The Hague
Food insecurity affects everyone, but not all equally. Persons with disabilities often face barriers to access, participation, and decision-making. How can food security policies and systems become more inclusive? What roles can stakeholders play in achieving inclusive food security? In the 2021-2025 We are Able! programme, stakeholders collaborated to reduced barriers, built capacities, raised awareness and influenced policy formulation and implementation, ensuring food security for all.
This DCDD event will mark the outcomes, lessons learned, and recommendations from the programme, and highlight how inclusive food security has been promoted in Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. This has been done through:
- community outreach and empowerment
- strengthening of Organisations of People with Disabilities and CSOs
- and policy engagement of local and national governments
